Firstly may I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and if you haven’t caught it yet, then I hope that this coming year will see you boating that fish of a lifetime.
We seem to have had our usual late November, through into December blow once more, but at the time of my tapping this out we seem to have settled into a quiet period, and the run up to Christmas is looking good, let’s hope that it will last through into the New Year.
The new Fladen 20/30 class rods are the dogs doobries, as far as I am concerned, (I am even using one myself). They are light to handle, and when in action they go into a progressive bend giving the angler total control over the fish.
The Cod are still out there, along with some good Pollock into double figures, and some nice Whiting, and a lot of Rays into double figures as well, which is good. Of course there are still loads of Congers making out to be Cod, but it all adds to the action of the day.
It was quite noticeable yesterday that the water temperature had dropped by a few degrees, so I am hoping that this will encourage the cod to feed even more, and bring them in even greater numbers, along with a few more of the twenty five to thirty pounders plus that we used to get a lot of.
Now they really used to put a bend into a rod, even the old stumpy broom handles that people used to bring out for their “winter fishing” used to get the varnish and whippings creaking when they got hung up with a “Needles Lunker”.
Oh happy days, one of them even used to make the Skipper “grunt” when he had to lift it over the side, and we might have had two or three of them on a trip. Still, they are happy memories, now I can leave the heavy lifting for Aarron to do, and I hope that he will get a lot of it, while I watch him from the wheelhouse door.
I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year, enjoy the holiday.
Tight lines,
Dave
