I am Gutted!!!!!

I have finally got the new gearbox connected up to the engine after a lot of frustrating hours caused by bits not being delivered, or getting the wrong parts sent. Then the engineer had great difficulty aligning the shaft to the engine, it was just one of those jobs that would not go right. On Friday night Henry (the engineer) and I were still trying to get the alignment right at half past nine at night, but it just would not go right. In my opinion Henry was a real diamond, and he was trying his hardest to get the boat ready for me to do my Saturdays trip, but it wasn’t to be.

Saturday saw us hard at work once more, but Henry had his nipper with him this time so I buggered off out of it, and left them alone to get the job done. It worked, because by mid-day Henry asked me to turn the ignition on (the first time in six weeks) and we fired the engine up.

What a lovely sound that was, (a bit Smokey at first) but she sounded as sweet as a nut, so we carried out some trials on the pontoon.

Then it was too good to be true, Terry noticed that there was some oil in the bilge, it was then that Henry found that there was a leek from the one of the oil pumps on the back of the gearbox. So we said bollocks, had a cuppa, and went home totally pissed off after all the efforts that had been made to get things up and running.

I am now waiting for an engineer from Mermaid Marine to come down and sort things out.

As I said at the beginning I am Gutted!!
