Just a quick update for you all. The Bream fishing is now getting into full swing with some really good fish being caught. Rob Lockhart has recorded the best male one so far this year, with a fish weighing in at 3lbs 13ozs. He did boat a larger female fish well in excess of 4lbs, (estimated) but as she was full of roe it was returned as quickly as possible, and causing as little stress as possible. As you all know I do insist on all the hen fish with roe to be returned.

On other trips when we have gone further afield, we have found various Rays, Mackerel, Smoothound, and Tope.

So the fishing is improving, and I have got spaces waiting to be filled, so shake the cob-webs off of your fishing tackle, and come on out and enjoy your day, or try and get a works trip together.

Hope to see you soon,

Tight lines,

Dave

Strange old game this fishing lark, a couple of weeks ago I made the first attempt to find out if there were any early Black Bream about, but it was a trip for nothing.

Then I made another attempt when I thought that the tides were right, again it turned out to be a fruitless attempt. Then last Wednesday I took one of my regular groups, and after several moves “Beefy” Salmon managed to latch into the first Bream of the season, and as it turned out it was a personal best for him, a fish of 3lbs 5ozs. A couple of others were lost on that trip, but well done “Beefy” you got the ball rolling.

The following day I took another group of regulars out, and we again found quality fish up to 3lbs 3ozs with one of the lads managing to land six including the biggest one of the day, and he also returned fish of a pound and a half which was good to see this early in the season.

A couple of trips earlier, I had a family group on and we had been messing around trying for Smalleyed Rays, but only succeeding in catching Dogfish. Which was keeping everyone amused, (they were catching fish, thank goodness for doggies), when the young lad dropped down with a piece of squid on the last drop of the day, and managed to catch a Megrim weighing 1lb 2ozs.

This was a first for the boat, and it was a good job that I always have Alwynn Wheelers fish identification book onboard as I was able to identify it with some certainty from the description given.

I would recommend this book to everyone who goes fishing, it is invaluable.

Let us hope that the weather is now going to improve, all the signs are there, The migrant birds are now returning, I saw the first of the Common Turns this last week, and the Black Bream are back, so summer must be on its way.

So come all you fair weather anglers, I still have some dates available, the fishing is improving, the suns getting warmer so get your sun cream, get your light gear out and come on down, the fishing is great again, especially after the dismal winter that we have just had it is good to feel the sun on our backs again.

I have made a few alterations onboard over the winter, and I think that it has improved the deck space, the comments that I have received so far have been good, so I am pleased.

Well that’s about all for now, I am just looking forward to the next trip for the Bream, I would like to break the 5lb barrier this year, I have had several 4lb plus aboard but it would be good to have the five pounder photographed and then returned as invariably it would be a female which would be full of roe.

Tight lines,

Dave
