Becky M Newsletter

Monday 7th November, 2005

Frustrating, is how I am, and no doubt you all are with the weather.

Frustrated, is how all of us Charter Skippers are with the stupid forecasts that we are being fed from the “so called” weather sites. Not one of them can agree with each other, and I am convinced that the “so called” forecasters couldn’t even lie straight in bed, even if they tried!!

The other day I looked at four or five different sites, and they were all different, even the met office sites disagreed with each other.

The trouble is, in my opinion, is that there are too many agency’s vying for all of the different weather outlets that there are around now, and in so doing they are putting too many interpretations onto the information that is being given. The old proverb, “Too many cooks spoil the broth” springs to mind here.

The good news is that there have been Cod caught off of the Needles, with fish of 17 lbs or so being reported. The Solent has also produced Cod, with fish being recorded in the same weight range.

I have also had the first of the winter Cod onboard, but only a small one, but when it had it’s golden coat on and was introduced to some chips & peas it looked as though it was a large portion from the “chippy”.

Well I have been busy with the entries coming in for the British Cod Championships, we have around 160 booked on at the moment, with more to come. There will be a public draw at the Lymington SAC clubhouse on the 10th November at 8 pm.

Let us hope that the fishing “Gods”, and the weather “Gods” get together and shine on our event, and that everyone is able to have a great competition.

If you are fishing this competition, then you will need to bring a selection of weights with you between 1/2lb & 2lbs as there could be a bit of a tide run off the Needles.

Tight lines,

Dave
