Becky M Newsletter

Monday 10th October, 2005

Once again I am late with my ramblings, but apart from being a lazy sod, and sorting out the light line end results to present to the Association, plus doing the odd trip I just haven’t got my act together.

There have been some nice Bass caught over the last few weeks, with the best one falling to Chris Barns yesterday, it was his biggest Bass that he had ever caught, and it weighed 8lbs 13ozs. To Chris’s credit, after I had photographed it, he said that it should go back, as it was full of roe, and was breeding stock.

Last Tuesday I had a group on some of them were up from Devon, and they had been cancelled earlier in the summer due to the weather, anyway Bill Cassar managed to bag himself a nice Bass of 6lbs 12ozs right on last knockings as I was just about to pull the anchor. Bill was dead chuffed with that fish as he had been trying for a Bass for the last twenty years.

I believe that Mark Harris’s 12lb 2oz Bass, which he returned alive has won him the special prize from Boat Fishing Monthly. Congratulations Mark.

The time is fast approaching when the ornament that has been adorning the position by the anchor rope bin masquerading as a winch will finally be fully connected up.

Last week while the boat was out of the water I managed to get a “man who knows how” in to connect all the bits together to the gearbox prior to the hydraulics being connected. So as from tomorrow with a bit of luck, (and a fair wind) as they say it will be all singing and dancing, and no more dragging the anchor in by hand, other than the last bit.

May I say a big thank you to all of my crews that have assisted in the arduous task of hauling the anchor in it has been a great help.

Thanks also to “Pinkie” for his assistance while I was out of the water, he was able to get on with the anti-fouling, leaving me clear to get on with other jobs onboard.

I expect to see the Cod showing within a week or so, they have been getting them down the eastern end of the Island, so they won’t be long before they are with us at our end, so it is big baits from here on.

Tight lines,

Dave
