Becky M Newsletter

Monday 11th September, 2006

Once again another month has flown past, and it looks as though winter isn’t far away.

As I sit down to write this set of jottings I look out through the window and it is grey, wet and miserable, and of course it is blowing a gale once more. Oh well par for the course I suppose. Mind you June and July were great, and the fishing was very pleasant so there can be no complaints there.

Well we are still catching Black Bream in great numbers, but they are mainly juvenile fish with the odd bigger one amongst them, still they are tweeking the rod tips, and people are catching fish, which is the name of the game.

Where there have been so many of the smaller fish around I have taken to carrying a score sheet out with me, and to make a bit of interest turning the day into a little competition with all fish counting, and points being awarded. Well with everyone putting a quid in it makes for an interesting day, and there is a little bonus for the winner at the end.

I never did get the elusive five pound Black Bream onboard this year, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying, and I had some excellent anglers aboard giving it their best shots, still next year hasn’t been touched yet so we can try again then.

The Light Line Competition went well again this year even though we didn’t quite have as many anglers fishing it.

The winner was Graham Latimer and he was aboard my boat, so I was dead chuffed about that. I must also say a big thank you to my crewman Arran (Pinky) who worked his socks off (as he does all the time) to ensure that you the anglers are looked after.

Cheers Nipper!!!

Well the next big comp coming up is our British Cod Championships in November, the entry forms will be sent out soon, but if you can’t wait till then you should be able to download from our Associations website www.westwightskippers.co.uk.

It is with great regret that we won’t be having Spike Spears with us on this competition any more due to him having ill health, and I hope that you will all wish him a good retirement.

That’s about it for now, let us all hope for a late run of big fish for the rest of the year, and if we miss them this time, then we can go for them the next time out, your fish of a lifetime could still be out there.

Tight lines,

Dave
